With Quizzies trivia every Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. are you aware of the history and trivia of Mock Crest and the Tavern. If not, it’s time to brush up! It might be your winning question.

John Mock, who arrived in Portland in 1852 with his family when he was eight years old. The following spring, his father claimed three hundred and seventeen acres in the district, now known as University Park. Additional information on John is available to read at the tavern.

The tavern has existed for over 60 years, serving the North Portland area, Mock_Crest_Tavern_art_reasonably_smalland named after John Mock, who settled in 1852 on the bluff overlooking Swan Island. Not only does the area hold history, but the actual building itself does as well. Its earlier uses include an ice cream parlor, meat market and pharmacy.

Mock Crest opened in 1947, and Jon and Rainer took over in 2001 building it into what we love so much today. Focused on the community, and bringing everyone together for a great place to play poker, lottery machines, and live music (no cover charge ever), and Quizzies, they pride themselves on the laid back friendly atmosphere. As they should.

Have a great week and we’ll see  ya there!

Open Mic Jam with Randy Yearout and Tracy Fordice

mic-stoolIt’s Open Mic Jam again so join us at Mock Crest Tavern this Thursday, January 30th, at 8:00 p.m. with Randy Yearout and Tracey Fordice from Tracey Fordice and the 8-Balls.

Most people know Randy Yearout on Guitars and Vocals with the 8-Balls, but he also founded the North Portland band NoPoMoJo. Known for his multi-instrumentalist and songwriting talents, Randy has a knack for witty and catchy songs in a variety of musical styles intermingling the roots and boundaries of blues, folk, jazz, rock, and country.

Tracey Fordice (formerly Tracey Bunch) rocks a beautiful, powerful and unique voice, as well as plays the piano and writes songs. Her talents are a blend of creativity that extends above and beyond most women in blues currently performing throughout the Portland blues scene.

And, with those two kicking off Open Mic night, you can’t go wrong!

Mock  Crest Tavern has some great beers on rotating tap. Check out:

  • Ecliptics Filament Winter IPA
  • HUB’s Survival Stout

Here’s a bit more about Ecliptic Brewing and its history in Oregon.

“Ecliptic Brewing is a venture from John Harris, an Oregon craft brewing pioneer. The name Ecliptic symbolizes our yearly path around the sun on planet Earth. This happens to be a connection between Harris’s two passions – brewing and astronomy – as well as his philosophy on experimentation.”

The Filament Winter IPA is a pale beer with Munich and Caramel malts that creates a rich malt with a touch of honey flavor. It offers an abundance of Crystal, Chinook and Centennial hops combined to lend spicy, citrus hop notes.

Have a great week and we’ll see ya there!

Halloween, Quizzies and More this Week at MCT!

Trick or Treat

Trick or Treat

It’s Halloween week and with the ghosts and goblins out and about, you will want to step into Mock Crest Tavern Halloween night. If you wear a costume you can get a free drink! Stay for a while and participate in the “Scaryoke” which is scary karaoke.

Mock Crest now offers “Pray for Snow” on draft. This beer is made by 10 barrel located in Bend, Oregon. They took last year’ version, tweaked it and made it even better! It offers eight different specialty malts that deliver a complex and thought provoking malt blanket. To compliment this, 10 barrel used a combination of herbal, spicy, and citrus hops to keep the beer in balance. All of this was blended together for months in Brandy barrels, adding nuances of oak, vanilla, and candied fruit. Hurry in I don’t think this one will last long!
Thanks to all of YOU, Quizzies is off to an amazing bang at Mock Crest
QuizziesTavern. The bar trivia, hosted by Roy Smallwood, and the night’s filled with fun and lots of laughs. If you haven’t made it yet the games begin at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday nights!

Join Boots n’ Honey as they perform on Tuesday, October 29th, at 7:30 p.m.

Boots n’ Honey and Jane Derringer are a 2012 version of Johnny Cash and June Carter. With original tunes, their acoustic rock n roll, ballads, country and blues music deliver a New York edge and bite.

Stay tuned for the weekend events coming up at Mock Crest Tavern. Don’t forget there is never ever a cover charge! They offer an awesome menu, appetizers, full bar and rotating taps. The ongoing reviews are raving about the great service, food and comfortable atmosphere.
