Suburban Slim and The Adequates

Mock Crest Tavern hosts a weekend packed with great music. Starting your February off right, Suburban Slim performs at 9:00 p.m. on Friday February 1st.

If you’re not familiar with him, Suburban Slim is an MCT favorite with his blues. Phil Wagner (aka Suburban Slim) has played the ukulele since childhood and later learned guitar. Phil’s originally from Northern California, where he recorded his first album at the age of 15. Later on, he toured Oregon and moved to Eugene where he stayed for several years before relocating to Portland. Phil settled into the area and embraced the wider audience and music culture. As his music career grew, he released three Cd’s of original tunes.

Erik VIt’s a packed week with fantastic music at Mock Crest Tavern. I hope you enjoy Gardeners Logic tonight. And to continue the events, Eric Vanderwall is returning to Mock Crest on Thursday, January 17th, at 8:30 p.m.

Eric continues to study, promising something new each time to his listeners.

Eric currently resides in Portland, and performs all over the city  as well as travels to Salem, Newberg, Dundee, Independence, Corvallis and Monmouth. Feel free to visit Eric at his website, and listen to some of his soothing music.

Also playing at MCT are the Adequates Friday evening at 9:00 p.m.

Suburban Slim is a MCT favorite with his blend of  blues. Phil Wagner (aka Suburban Slim) has played the ukulele since childhood and later learned guitar with his brother as his mentor. Originally from Northern California, he recorded his first album at the young age of 15. Later on, he toured Oregon and moved to Eugene where he stayed for years before relocating to Portland. Phil settled into the area and embraced the wider audience and music culture. As his music career grew he released three Cd’s of original tunes.

Suburban Slim is available to hear on YouTube.

Side O’ Ranch will perform on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. for a middle of the week extra!  Enjoy their unique and fun sound with their Side O' Ranchblend of  anti-folk, country and punk.

Molly and Sam Dechenne, brother and sister, relocated from Portland to Brooklyn, New York to form their group.  Side O’ Ranch is light-hearted, but heartfelt and honest with their lyrics.  The show offers a fast-paced magnetism and natural ease. Side O’ Ranch is a fun show you don’t want to miss.

Not only are you guaranteed great music with Suburban Slim and Side O’ Ranch, but the menu is awesome as well. Mock Crest Tavern also offers a great choice of drinks to help you warm up and relax after the holiday. If you have friends and family visiting from out-of-town, bring them by.

Mock Crest Tavern Welcomes Hillfolk Noir

Mock Crest Tavern welcomes “Hillfolk Noir” from Idaho, Thursday, November 29th at 8:30 p.m.

Hillfolk Noir’s  traditional acoustic mountain music, is based on a half-century of folk, country, rock ‘n’ roll and string-band blues. The band calls it Junkerdash, or “indie folk.”

Hillfolk Noir’s touring lineup normally consists of:

  1. Travis Ward: resonator guitar, vocals, suitcase, harmonica, kazoo, words
  2. Mike Waite: stand-up bass
  3. Alison Ward: singing saw, washboard, banjo, harmonies

The band is currently touring, promoting their latest album, “Hillfolk Noir Radio Hour”,  released in March 2012. The recording is similar to an old-fashioned radio program, and  includes commercial breaks that advertise fake products the group made up. The album is available on CD, MP3 and limited-edition 10-inch vinyl packaged to resemble a 1920s-era 78.

Hillfolk Noir has performed with Built to Spill, James McMurtry, Neko Case, Justin Townes Earle, Deer Tick, Gourds, Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Gerald Collier,  Train, Jesse Dayton, and many other acts.

A recent review for Hillfolk Noir:

“Hillfolk Noir have made a classic roots record using old style, one mic, low-fi technology, the music is fantastic but the feel of the record “Skinny Mammy’s Revenge” has captured the passion and love of this genre absolutely perfectly. As soon as you hear it, you are there with them, in that circle of musicians, hearing up-close their great songs, the heartfelt stories and you are next to them for every note… a roots classic without a doubt.”

~ Barry Marshall-Everitt, House of Mercy Radio

Visit their website for additional information at http://www.hillfolknoir.com/. They also have several tunes available on myspace .

See ya there!
