Claes of the Blueprints Returns to Mock Crest Tavern

Claes Almroth

Claes Almroth

Wooohoo! It’s Claes Almroth of the Blueprints this Thursday, June 12th at 8:30 p.m. Claes is a Mock Crest favorite and regular with great tunes for everyone. He showcases his talents in various bands including:

  • The Blueprints
  • Claes and Sons
  • Reverb Brothers
  • The New Iberians

He was born in Sweden and grew up in the San Francisco Bay area. As he grew older, he began playing the piano, and shortly after picked up the harmonica. As an adult Claes relocated to Oregon from California where he  lived in Corvallis and  played in a jug band, a blues band, and enrolled in music classes. In the 80′s he moved to Portland, Oregon. After several name and band changes, The Blueprints were born.

Today he sings lead and harmony vocals; plays the keyboard, and harmonica, as well as writes and records his own music. Feel free to listen to his music and learn more about him on myspace.

summer dayThe official day of summer is right around the corner, June 21st! I thought some summer trivia would be fun.

  • People in the Southern Hemisphere have their longest day of summer in December.
  • Solstice comes from two Latin words sol and sistere. Sol means sun; stitium is the verb which means to stand still.
  • The names of the key summer months have Roman origins. June is named after Juno, who was the wife of Jupiter. Marc Antony named July after Julius Caesar and August was named after Caesar’s nephew, known as Augustus.
  • Even though this is the longest day of the year, it’s not the hottest, due to something called seasonal temperature lag, which means that it takes a while for the oceans to let their stored summer solstice heat back into the air. That’s why it tends to be hotter in July or August than in June.
  • Until the early 19th century there was no summer vacation. Depending on the location of schools breaks came either quarterly (town schools) or to coincide with planting and harvest seasons (rural schools).

And of course the best part about summer and Mock Crest Tavern is the out-door, full service seating!

Have a great week and we’ll see ya there!
