Welcome Paul Cataldo to Mock Crest Tavern

Paul CJoin Mock Crest Tavern Tuesday, August 12, and welcome Paul Cataldo! Paul is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and is currently touring across the country. You will enjoy his combination of Americana, Roots, Country and Appalachian music. The music begins at 8:00 p.m.

Paul has played since the age of fourteen when he heard Neil Young. His music became his sanctuary while growing up and he utilized musicians including John Fogerty, Lindsay Buckingham and David Gilmour as music teachers. After years of practice he found himself playing lead with “ShortBus” a Boston based cover band.

It didn’t take long before he grew tired of playing other people’s music and relocated to New York and began writing his own music.

Paul sings songs that tell stories about a little of everything including alcoholism, war, poverty and jealousy as well as peace and love.  His first full length LP “Rivers, Roads & Mountains” was released in 2009 and has received steady airplay on college stations. Paul recorded the LP at Quad Studios in Nashville in the same room Young recorded his breakthrough record “Harvest”.  Some of Nashville’s best known session players appear throughout the album as well as long time music companions Tony Montalbano and Eben Pariser of Roosevelt Dime.

Hope you are enjoying the full service seating out back. Portland has been full of sunny, clear and hot days, but no matter what the weather is outside, Mock Crest Tavern always has what you need. August continues to heat up with new music all month-long. Before we know it Labor Day will arrive and school will begin again. So enjoy it while you can!

Have a great week and we’ll see ya there!

Charles Ellsworth Plays at Mock Crest Tavern

charlesLet’s help welcome Charles Ellsworth, Shadow Puppet to Mock Crest Tavern August 29th! They are stopping by while on their West Coast Tour and their show begins at 8:30 p.m.

Charles, originally from Arizona, brings a blend of Americana, Country and Blues music with him. He attributes such greats as Johnny Cash, Chuck Ragan and Steve Earl as some of the strongest influences on his musical career.

When  someone new appears I reach for my laptop and begin my Google search for reviews.  Other people’s opinions can certainly sway someone. And in this case, this review of Charles Ellsworth should have you writing the performance date on your calendar!

“Charles Ellsworth is a storyteller. If his music doesn’t keep you listening (and it should), his vivid lyrics will stop your hand from skipping anything on this EP. Ellsworth’s vocals remind me of Matt Berninger, laced with the blues and 1960s country. “Last I Heard and Last I Checked” is an ode to what could have been—just a man and his guitar, soulfully pondering. Lyrics like “tell the Lord your plans if you wanna make him laugh, cuz when I told him mine I had him rolling on his back” were reason enough for me to finally figure out how to use the repeat function on my home stereo. You’re going to hum these songs, and your friends are going to ask you for a copy of whatever it is you’re singing. Lucky for them, Ellsworth is happy to share. Just find him on Facebook already.” –Andrew Roy SLUG Magazine

His website offers an Immediate download of “Gentle On My Mind”. It’s available in high-quality MP3, FLAC and several other formats. You can also visit his FaceBook page.
