Roy Smallwood hosts Quizzy Trivia every Sunday at 6:30 p.m. so don’t be late!

Here’s some interesting tidbits about Roy and how Quizzy began.

Roy began Quizzy trivia in November 2004. He not only hosts the trivia, but also writes the questions for topics including music, movies, science, literature, geography and history. There are a total of 42 questions with four rounds of increasing difficulty.

RoyAccording to Roy, he started Quizzy with the intent of never working for someone else which has been the case for the last 5 years. He also guarantees you won’t be asked questions concerning America’s Next Top Model, Justin Beiber or anything from People Magazine. Creating the questions has also allowed him to claim a niche and separate it from all other bar trivia in Portland due to the questions not being dumb.
Roy continues to entertain his fans with great postings on his website and blog. You can also support and follow him on Facebook. Be prepared for intelligent, well written posts that drip with sarcasm and show his great sense of humor.

Have a great week and we’ll see ya there!

Claes Returns to Mock Crest This Thursday

Claes Almroth

Claes Almroth

Claes Armoth of the Blueprints performs at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10th at Mock Crest Tavern.

Claes Almroth, born in Sweden, grew up in the San Francisco Bay area. At the young age of 13 or 14, the “underground” FM rock radio came into existence. Claes heard artists such as Paul Betterfield, Charlie Musselwhite, BB King, Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson. They became huge influences in his life and encouraged him to continue in his journey. Today, he plays  in a number of bands, where he sings lead and harmony vocals; plays the keyboard, and harmonica, as well as writes and records his own music. Other bands he performs with include:

  • The Blueprints
  • Claes and Sons
  • Reverb Brothers
  • The New Iberians

He also plays with Johnny Ward and the Papas occasionally. You can listen to his music and learn more about him on myspace.

Here are some fun facts about Portland:

  • Portland was named by the flip of a coin. If it had landed on the other side, Portland would be known as Boston, Oregon.
  • Portland is home to many famous bands/musicians such as The Kingsmen and Paul Revere & the Raiders, The Dandy Warhols, Everclear, Pink Martini, Sleater-Kinney, The Shins, Blitzen Trapper, The Decemberists, and the late Elliott Smith.
  • Portland is the only major US city that has a dormant volcano within city limits. Dormant means the volcano is sleeping and there is the potential that it could wake up at some point.
  • In November of 2008, a judge dismissed charges against nude bicyclist on the grounds that Portland’s annual World Naked Bike Ride “was a well-established tradition in Portland.” In 2010, an estimated 13,000 attended Portland’s annual World Naked Bike Ride making it the world’s largest.

Have a great week, and we’ll see ya there!
