There are two fantastic reasons to love Thursday. One, it’s that much closer to Friday and the weekend and two, it’s Open Mic/Jam night at Mock Crest Tavern. This week Johnnie Ward will kick off the fun!
Johnnie, originally from Portland, has performed with bands including the PH Phactor Jug Band, and opened for Moby Grape, The Grateful Dead, Pentangle, The Doors, and several other famous groups.
Some of his tunes are available on myspace.
I hope everyone enjoyed the post about Roy Smallwood and his hit game Quizzy. If you missed it you can read it here. He hosts Quizzy Trivia every Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. so bring your friends and join the fun.
Here are some great trivia tidbits to help you win and it’s all about Portland.
- The city is noted for its superior land-use planning and investment in their light rail system. With its public transportation networks and efficient land-use planning, Portland has been referred to as one of the most environmentally friendly, or “green”, cities in the world.
- Being home to more than 60 breweries, Portland has more microbreweries than any other city in the world. No wonder Portland has been named the best city for happy hour in the United States.
- Portland is one of the few destinations outside of France where you can take your dog into pubs.
- During the dot-com boom of the mid-to-late 1990’s, Portland saw an influx of people in their 20’s and 30’s, drawn to the promise of a city with abundant nature, urban growth boundaries, cheaper rent, and opportunities to work within the graphic design and Internet industries, as well as for companies such as Doc Martens, Nike, Adidas, and Wieden+Kennedy. Sound familiar?
Have a great week and we’ll see ya there!
