Mock Crest Tavern has a treat for you! Jim Speirs, author of “Tales of North Portland”, will have a book signing at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, October 10th. The long awaited “Tales of North Portland” book 6 is available for purchase and autograph.

Jim Speirs is a lifelong resident of North Portland, and he enjoys writing about North Portland’s history. He taught Political Science at Portland Community College and Chemeketa Community College. Jim specialized in the politics of WWII, Vietnam, and Korea at both colleges. He served his country as a Marine Corps infantryman and spent 17 months in Vietnam. “Death In Spades”, his first novel, is now available as well.

So come on in to the tavern for the book signing, and stay for live music up next!

Claes Armoth from The Blueprints and Claes and Friends will return to Mock Crest Tavern helping  you move closer to Friday and the upcoming weekend. The performance begins at 8:30 p.m on Thursday, October 10th.

Not only does Claes play with Claes and Friends, but he also belongs to several other groups including The Reverb Brothers. They’re an offshoot of “Johnnie Ward and The Eagle Ridin’ Papas”. Doug Marx and Claes started the band when they left The Papas, first as a duo, then a trio and eventually growing into a six piece band. The band’s foundation lies within jug band music and 1930’s jazz, but also  includes New Orleans R&B, Swamp Rock, Rock and Roll, Country and Soul.

Here is some fun information concerning Claes. He used to own a record store on Hawthorne called Reverb Music, and is now selling his inventory online at eBay and several clients.

Have a great week and we’ll see ya there!
