Ron Stephens and Freak Flag Fly

Mock Crest Tavern welcomes Ron Stephens and Freak Flag Fly! They’re performing Friday, April 19th, at 9:00 p.m. If your music taste involves rock, rhythm and blues, then this is a band you will want to hear. They’re compared to Little Feat and ZZ Top.

Members Include:

  • Ron Stephens
  • Carlton Jackson
  • Denny Bixby

Ron has worked in the music industry, in one form or another, for more than forty years. His experience spans in several directions including performing, writing and recording. Ron’s knowledge has also landed him in the midst of several of Portland’s most popular and successful bands, on stage, and behind the scenes in the  studio.

Stephens’ latest music venture, Freak Flag Fly (a phrase taken from David Crosby’s “Almost Cut My Hair” on the first CSN album), includes Hall of Famers Carlton Jackson and Denny Bixby. They perform original songs from every era and personal favorites that span the spectrum from ZZ Top to Motown.

This April, the band introduced two new original tunes to their song list. The rehearsed world premier of “These Are Better Days”  is available on their Facebook page. The ballad “There’s No Walking Away” is the first  love song Ron has written in years, which is a tribute to his wife, Mary. For music, updates and blog posts from the band visit them at their website.

Ron and Freak Flag Fly performed at Mock Crest Tavern in February, and all the seats filled before the band had completed loading their gear in. So I recommend grabbing a beer and food early and taking your seats.

Have a great week, and we’ll see ya there!
