I can’t believe it’s almost March 1st, and Mock Crest Tavern is starting the month off with Suburban Slim. His performance begins at 9:00 p.m Friday evening.
Phil, aka Suburban Slim, played the ukulele during his childhood years, and then switched to guitar. He grew up in Northern California, and recorded his first album at the age of 15. As the years passed, he toured throughout Oregon and later relocated to Eugene. He stayed there for 15 years before moving to Portland where he became involved in a wider audience and music scene. You can hear Suburban Slim on YouTube.
Dawn Fitzgerald and the Dents perform Saturday night at 9:00 p.m. This group offers a mix of blues, country and rock.
- Dawn Fitzgerald – Vocals and percussion
- Phil Quarterman – Keyboards and vocals
- Tom Hamstra – Guitar, vocals and fiddle
- Aaron Lowe – Harmonica
Dawn is originally from the Los Angeles music scene, and has performed with the Dents for the last 5 years. They discovered her while singing at the White Eagle.
As part of the last of the British Invasion, Phil was exiled to the US in 1974 due to an issue with the Royal Family. He was a founding member of the Dents after playing for many years in the Salem-based Rude Noizes.
Tom has played the guitar since age 15. He also plays the fiddle, mandolin and bass, as well as sings backup vocals when Dawn needs him.
Aaron left the bluegrass world of Virginia at age 20 and found his way to Chicago where he tended bar at Buddy Guy’s Place. Here he met all his blues idols. He has been in Oregon playing with several bands over the last 17 years.

Have a great week, and we’ll see ya there!
