HiFi MoJo- Rhythm and Blues

I’m not sure where September went, and as all Portland natives know, the rain will present itself before we know it. Take a seat outside at Mock Crest, and enjoy the sun, drinks and great food.

As fall moves in, don’t miss HiFi MoJo Saturday, September 29th at 9 p.m. as they bring their rhythm and blues to the Tavern.

The  moment their voices rang through my laptop speakers, I was hooked. The blend of harmonies is excellent in “Smoke and Mirrors”. HiFi MoJo offers a true to nature blues sound and lyrics. In 2011 Hifi Mojo’s CD “Are You In, Kid?” was nominated as the Cascade Blues Association’s entry for the International Blues Challenge’s contest for “Best Self-Produced CD”.

Members include: Marty Henninger – Drums, Vocals
Ray Mann – Bass, Vocals, Drums
Gary Lapado – Guitar, Vocals,
Kerry Canfield – Keyboards, Vocals
Cliff Ashmon – Blues Harp, Vocals

Music, bio information and much more is available on their website at http://www.hifimojo.net/

Things to remember: there’s never a cover charge at Mock Crest, Happy Hour served twice daily: 3 – 6PM & 11PM – 2:00AM, daily breakfast specials for $2.99, and free poker on Sunday and Monday evenings at 7 p.m.

See you there!

The Adequates at Mock Crest Tavern

The Adequates perform at 9 p.m. on Friday, September 28th at Mock Crest. Their music includes songs from  the 60′s, 70′s and 80′s. Stapleton’s vocals and guitar come through strong with songs from the Stones and Clash, among others. Don Henson is on piano, drums and vocals. Mike Cheddar offers his expertise on bass and Peter Blowing on harp.

The band contributes the Rolling Stones, Clash, Elvis Costello, Squeeze and Bruce Springsteen as their influences.

If you’re new to the blog and tavern, here are some reviews from customers:

“Very good restaurant, very good hamburgers. Nice place for a burger and a beer.” J.S. -Oklahoma City, OK

“Best place in town to grab a quick, yet, great bite to eat. Great burgers, and great fresh food.” Mike G. Spokane, WA

“This place is fantastic! Not only does it have a “local” draw, an updated full service bar, great music, friendly atmosphere and a fantastic staff. You have got to try this place! The menu is extensive and the staff is willing to accommodate your every whim! Want to book a party? Call them! Want to have fun? Go There! Want great food and to be able to change the menu? See ya there!” Jose E. Ioja, Colarodo

Here’s a Mock Crest Trivia question for you, and I’ll make it super easy: What type of geocaching does Mock Crest Tavern offer? Hint: you can find the answer somewhere on the blog. Leave your answer in the comments.

NoPo MoJo and The Blueprints

NoPo MoJo

NoPo MoJo returns to Mock Crest Friday night, September 21st at 9 p.m. A crowd favorite with their Folk-rock, Swing, Old-Timey, and Country music songs, the audience will tap their toes and sway to the beat in a matter of minutes. You might even witness the washboard being played!

I’m quite fond of “Rudi Went to Rehab and I Went to Jail”. Check it out for yourself on Myspace.

The Blueprints also return to MCT and perform Saturday at 9 p.m.

For those of you just tuning in to the blog, The Blueprints perform a mix of Americana/Blues and R&B. Members include: Claes Almroth, EmmaLee Almroth, Chris Bond, Steve Dion,  and Emery Wilson.

“Blind Man” grabs your attention as soon as it begins. To hear this song and others visit The Blueprints on Reverbnation.

Find additional songs on myspace, including “Everything is Free Now” and “Wait On Time.”

Don’t forget there is never a cover charge at Mock Crest Tavern. So share the events with your friends, and remind them to visit and subscribe to the blog for future events.

St. Practice Day With the Chancers!

A warm howdy all the way from San Antonio, Texas to ya’ll in Portland! I’m here on business and flying home to Portland just in time for St. Practice Day at Mock Crest!

I honestly had to do a bit o’ investigating on this one. Actually, I emailed Rainer, one of the owners for the details. I’d never heard of St. Practice Day. Have you?

St. Practice day is practice for St. Patrick’s Day, and since we’re almost half way to that day in March 2013, Mock Crest is bringing in “The Chancers” who are an Irish band. Not only that, but there will also be St. Paddy’s day fare! Just one more reason to add to my list why Mock Crest Tavern is the best.

Here’s a sample of what’s available:

        Guiness $3.50
Shot o’ Jameson with any beer $5
        Irish Car Bombs $6.75
        Irish Coffee $5
        Laurie’s Corned Beef Specials

The Chancers members are: Sean Connolly, Felim Egan, Paddy Schutte and Tim Cornell. Their music includes traditional Irish ballads, hackneyed paddy-whack tunes and polkas. They attribute their sounds and inspiration to Benny O’Conner of the esteemed Galway Ceili band ‘Shaskeen’, Neil Diamond, Shane McGowan and Morrissey.

Catch their tunes on Reverbnation.

Mark your calendars for Thursday, September 20th at 8:30 p.m. You won’t want to miss the fun!

Feel free to return to the blog after your visit and share with everyone what the highlight of your night was. I look forward to hearing your comments.
