Erik Vanderwall is returning to Mock Crest on Thursday, August 30th, at 7 p.m. with his classical blues sound. His truly soothing sound melts away the stress of the work week. Enjoy a Jolly Green Giant, and the summer weather before we move into September.
David Brothers and his band bring the Americana Blues to the tavern Friday, August 31st at 9 p.m. Here’s a few quotes that will speak for themselves. “Guitar Playing is Masterful and Precise, song writing is brilliant.”… Blues Notes Magazine
…”An Americana testament that would bring a smile to folk/bluegrass legend Doc Watson”… New Haven Advocate
Visit here to listen to a few tunes before Friday evening.
Sidestreet Reny performs September 1st, at 9 p.m. The band consists of two members, Reny and Bell, who have played together for 14 years. Their sound brings a blend of bluesy funk pre-war blues, roots and folk music birthing their own sound. They’re sure to pack the house with their unique sound, mixing a touch of reggae when you’re least expecting it. Reny’s raspy voice is strongly complimented with Bell’s smooth and melodic sound. “Money Blues” became a fast fave of mine, and “Fade” a close second.
Listen to their tunes at Reverb Nation.
As August comes to a close, the rush of back to school, and the holidays around the corner, take some time to relax and kick back. Treat yourself to some great tunes and music, and let me know if you tried your hand at the lottery machine.

On Sunday and Monday evenings Mock Crest Tavern offers free poker. A good game of poker is a great way to relax after a hectic Monday back at work. They also serve a fantastic menu, including this awesome Hummus plate offered Thursday through Sunday. Not only is this mouth-watering, but it’s a work of art.
While I visited, and enjoyed the beautiful Portland day in the seating outside, a basket of tater tots passed us on its way to the table next to me. My friend and I looked at each other, surely thinking the same thing. I”m not sure whose stomach rumbled the loudest. The smells from the kitchen also caught the breeze when the tavern door opened, and it took all my will power not to order a Philly cheese steak sandwich, but I wanted the breakfast too! However, since it was 5 p.m. I realized I’d have to visit between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. for the French Toast and biscuits and gravy.
For those of you that I’m making hungry, here’s the link for the menu http://www.mockcrest.com/Menu_pdf.html.
Here’s a bit of information for you history buffs. John Mock, was a real estate developer, and contributed land for the University of Portland. He also built several homes, and one is a Portland landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s amazing the vision John had for Portland, and how it came to realization. You can see the rich history of the area and the tavern as you drive through the streets. This is just one more reason I’m proud of being a part of it.

As I’m checking the calendar for the next biggest thing at Mock Crest Tavern, music begins playing. I begin clicking windows to find the source and turn it off, and then, I stopped. This amazing voice and soft guitar filled my room and my soul. I leaned back in my chair and absorbed it, as if it were the last ray of sunshine in Portland’s short summer. Who, might you ask am I blubbering over? Daniel Kwiatkowski, and you can as well at 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 23rd. I strongly encourage it. And remember, there is never a cover charge at the tavern either!
Until then, his music is available in full length songs here. I thoroughly enjoyed his website, and clicked on his bio eager for additional information. Daniel simply says, ” I just want to play music forever, so that’s what I’m going to do.”
The Adequates begin performing at 9 p.m. on Friday, August 24th, and will cover a variety of songs from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Their old school rock includes The Stones, Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Costello. You can’t miss with these awesome tunes!
The Blueprints will kick off Saturday evening’s entertainment also beginning at 9 p.m. Enjoy their unique sound of blues, rock and R&B. While visiting them on ReverbNation, I quickly adopted a favorite tune, “Unchain My Heart”, with its rocky blues sound and guitar. The Blueprints will get your foot tapping, and body moving with their great tunes at Mock Crest Tavern.
Be sure and tell your friends, order drinks, food, and enjoy a fantastic weekend. I’d love to hear your thoughts after your visit, so please come back and leave your comments!
